When I read the petition you currently reference on your website, I was disappointed to see the pejorative reference to the "religious right." Why not balance it with a reference to the "irreligious left"? By the way, as a political conservative, I agree with the seven statements on the petition, agree that the "religious right" does not speak for me, and agree that God is neither a Democrat, nor Republican. I suspect He is none too worried about His sovereignty, come November 3rd.
Thanks for this comment. You're right - there's plenty of trouble to go around! The "irreligious left" has its own share of problems, but one of them isn't that it's claiming to say which candidate is "God's annointed," nor are they telling Christians whom they should vote for. That was the main issue the petition aimed to address. I'm so glad that your voice will be heard among political conservatives.
As I've said elsewhere, we need good people like you as salt and light in both parties, helping their colleagues see "outside the box." As you imply - the democrats need this as much as the republicans!
Perhaps, if they lose in November, they'll realize that being "irreligious" might be a good way to keep losing elections - and there will be some needed rethinking. If the Republicans lose, perhaps there will be some needed rethinking among the religious right as well. Let's hope whoever loses learns from the experience - that's one of the benefits of losing.
