Don't we need anewkindofpastor?
I have recently reread anewkindofchristian due to the fact that i've really been feeling the tension as a minister to become and work hard at becoming anewkindofchristian within my own transitioning eccleisal community.
My questions emerge out of this context that maybe it will take anewkindofpastor to help fellow believers grow in this new capacity as newkindofchristians.
Would Brian ever consider, partnering with a fellow pastor to write a book "anewkindofpastor" for those who want to take the leap and don't know how? Who want to become new..but only have modern proto-types to resemble?
The metaphor, that as pastor, that emerged out of the modern context often portrays leaders as shepherds who lead the flock for the ultimate Shepherd..but i think a new metaphor emerging is more that of the sheep dog..
One who must know the voice of the sheperd and walks along the sheep to help them journey in community. While the metaphor has not been fully thought out i hope it suggest the point that a change is needed.
As a pastor, and fellow emergent friend.. someone show me anewkindofpastor. Please the old model will not do for much longer.
Thanks for your thoughts. My friend Alan Roxburgh is already doing some helpful writing on this subject. I don’t think I have anything to add to what he’s writing. His chapter on leadership in The Missional Church is excellent, and all his books are stimulating and worthwhile. Stay tuned for his newest book – I just read the manuscript, and found it very helpful.
